LATRINE SUPERSTRUCTURE

We are aware of the importance of having an easy to build, cost-effective and immediate available latrine for disaster relief in situations humanitarian crises, as well as helping to avoid, not only indignity situations endured by those lacking sanitation facilities, but also the number of diseases caused by the bacteria found on human excreta.

This is why at Dunster House, we have developed a safe, resistant, low maintenance Latrine Superstructure specifically designed to help in situations of humanitarian disaster.

Dunster Design

The main body of the toilet is made from 4mm corrugated plastic as it is UV stable, meaning it can withstand most of the weather conditions it is exposed to. This material is also very low maintenance, easy to clean and will provide users with privacy. It is also designed to fit the standard 800x1200 Squatting Plate size.

Our pressure treated timber has had non-toxic treatment forced deep within the timber, helping to protect it against rot and insect infestation. This ensures the Latrine Superstructure remains strong and secure, while helping to ease the process of importing non-indigenous timber into different countries.

The slanted raised roof of this Latrine Superstructure allows rainfall to run down and away from the latrine, rather than inside. A small gap at the top of the toilet, between the structure and the roof, is left for ventilation purposes.

Shipping and installation

The design also takes into consideration the importance of an efficient usage of the space for shipping, so they maximise the use of space in an easy to store and transport flat-pack for a cost-effective result.

The materials we have used on our Latrine Superstructures are lightweight, making transport easy and cost-effective. Often our Latrines need to be built quickly and, by making them from lightweight materials, we eliminate the need to struggle whilst working in often adverse conditions.

We are aware that everyone’s needs are different which is why our Latrine can be used independently or easily placed next to each other to serve larger communities.

Security:

Security is paramount, especially in places where attacks are common, which is why the Latrine Superstructure has both internal and external locking capabilities as standard. This prevents the door from swinging open when in use and makes it easy to secure overnight.
